About HBRC
The application of the scientific planning plays an important role in the
development. The strategy of the government of Egypt is to enhance the level of life of
all Egyptians, which means the expansion in the field of construction and housing.
The presidential decree No. 63 was issued in 16th of February 2005 for
the reformulation of the Housing and Building Research Center as The Housing and Building
National Research Center to play its role through the application of the following major
goals:
- Coordination between the research efforts in the field of building industry
- Deploying of knowledge in the field of housing and building
- Satisfying more effective and economical buildings
- Developing the methods of construction
- Assisting in the development of the engineering field
- Applying construction codes and regulations
The Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC) of Cairo, Egypt
is an independent governmental research establishment which has a board of directors and
a Chairman working under the supervision of the Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban
Development. The organization is very largely financed through the annual governmental
fund and substantial resources are also drawn from, the construction industry for work
done at the organization. Another source of finance is the joint research work done with
foreign agencies such as UNESCO, and domestic research agencies such as the Egyptian
Academy for Scientific Research and Technology.
By the application of the presidential decree No. 64 -2005 for the issuing
of the executing tariff of the Housing and Building National Research Center,
the following institutes shall follow the Center:
- Building materials and quality control research institute
- Concrete construction research institute
- Structures and metallic construction research institute
- Soil mechanics and geo-technical engineering research institute
- Sanitary and environmental engineering research institute
- Construction engineering and construction research institute
- Architectural and housing research institute
- Raw materials and technological processing research institute
- Building Physics and environment research institute
- Training and urban studies institute
- Electromechanical acts in buildings research institute
Prof. Mosataf El-Demerdash is the Chairman of the Housing and Building
National Research Center. The co-chairman's are: Prof. Mohamed Abdel Razik and Prof.
Khadija Ibrahim Abdel Ghany
